An AI-generated song featuring the voices of Drake and The Weeknd, titled Heart On My Sleeve, has been removed from several social media platforms including Spotify, Apple Music, YouTube, Amazon Music, and SoundCloud. The song was reportedly created by Ghostwriter977, who used AI software to replicate the vocal stylings of the two musicians. The song garnered over 275,000 plays on YouTube and more than 625,000 on Spotify before being taken down. Universal Music Group (UMG), the record label that represents both Drake and The Weeknd, demanded that the song be removed from all platforms, stating that it infringed on copyright laws. UMG argued that platforms have an ethical and legal responsibility to prevent the use of their services in ways that harm artists. The legal implications of AI-generated music remain unclear, and it is still developing faster than laws can be drawn up.

Listen to that song and tell me that doesn’t sound exactly like Drake. I totally get why UMG had to completely put their foot down and shut all of this down. The anonymous TIkTok account “Ghostwriter977” claimed to work in the music industry as a ghostwriter for years and said he/she got paid nothing for their services. I’m sure he/she made so much money from this solely based on views from this clip. I saw a theory on Twitter saying that this AI song was a marketing ploy for a new song from Drake and The Weeknd, but let’s be real. Drake and The Weeknd don’t need marketing. Drake posts a story on Instagram and says “New Song Tonight” and that’s enough marketing. Either way, I think this is so scary. From the lyrics to the voices of Drake and The Weeknd, it all seems like it could actually be true.
