In case you have been living under a rock, Oppenheimer was released in theaters this weekend. The release of Barbie was also this weekend, but my pink shirt was in the wash and as a result I can’t give my input on that for a little bit. What I can tell you, is that Christopher Nolan showed just how smart he is as a director. An intellectual could probably tell you about how the movie looked, and sounded. What I can tell you, is the artistic choice to leave Florence Pugh topless for most of her screen time is why Nolan is a legend.

Without giving away too much of the movie, Florence Pugh is basically Oppenheimer’s side piece throughout the movie. His goomar if you will. She plays a very important role in the film, and so do both of her nipples. While leaving the theater, I overheard someone talking about how their relationship shows Oppenheimer’s humanity. I’m not sure if that’s true. I think it showed that Oppenheimer had his mind on destroying two things: cities, and female genitals.

One thing I didn’t appreciate was the exaggeration of what these scenes were going to entail. I tried going into the movie fairly blind, but I also saw the following tweet before buying a ticket.

Am I wrong to read that tweet and assume that I was going to find out what Tommy Shelby’s snake would look like? I don’t think so. I understand that some people are likely relieved by the news of not having to see someone’s package take up most of an IMAX screen. I’m not one of these people. I was more than happy to see Florence Pugh do her part. But I’d be lying if I said I wasn’t a little disappointed that Murphy didn’t go full Thunder Gun.

As far as a review for this movie goes… who cares? You clicked on this, hoping I’d give you a link to see what I was talking about. Since I’m not a monster, here.
