To preface this blog: in no way am I saying these movies aren’t good, I’m simply stating that they get way much more hype than they deserve.

5. Caddyshack

I really enjoyed Caddyshack. I think it’s a fun movie, but the reality is that it doesn’t hold up the way that the oldheads think it does. Anyone over the age of 45 will talk about how amazing of a movie it is without being able to understand that it simply pales in comparison to the comedy movies we have today. Animal Houseremains the only 80s comedy that actually holds up by modern standards.

4. Pulp Fiction

Pulp Fiction is one of the greatest movies of all time. That’s a fact. And it’s a fact because Quentin Tarantino hasn’t put out anything that isn’t fucking awesome. But the overrated part of this movie comes when anyone says that it’s his best – I’d honestly argue that it’s toward the bottom of his collection (but bottom tier Tarantino is still top-tier film). This isn’t me shitting on Pulp Fiction, it’s me shitting on people who haven’t seen all of his movies and make stupid statements.

3. Citizen Kane

Every asshole who’s taken a film class will want to sit and tell you how groundbreaking and amazing Citizen Kane is, but the bottom line is that in this day and age, it’s borderline impossible to watch. I’ve seen about fourteen minutes of it, and I fully believe it was something crazy when it came out. The reality, though, is that now it’s just a useful falling asleep tool.

2. Jaws

Jaws is a lot like Caddyshack except it’s not even a little bit rewatchable. You listen to anyone that was alive when it came out, and they talk about how amazing of a movie it is, but the farther away from that age you get, the more people will tell you that it’s just okay. The reality is that it’s been romanticized a shit-ton, and it’s just not that great of a movie for anyone who grew up in the age of CGI. I’m sure it was astounding at the time, but it doesn’t come close to holding up.

1. Forrest Gump

I like this movie as much as the next guy, but let’s head on over to the 1995 Oscars. Forrest Gump won Best Picture, and I think that’s the definition of an overrated movie. I know I already said Pulp Fiction was overrated, but I think we can all agree it deserved to win Best Picture over Forrest Gump. You know what movie actually deserved the win that year, though: The Shawshank Redemption. I don’t know what the Academy was thinking when they made this pick, but Forrest Gump over Shawshank is an all-time snub and it’s why it gets the number one spot on this list.
