I learned what the term industry plant is today. It’s not because I was trying to find out what type of decorations are used in office buildings across the country. It was because I was truly interested in finding who Bobbi Althoff is, and why she is famous.
Althoff hosts, “The Really Good Podcast.” If you’ve never heard of it, it’s because it launched this Summer. She has released only four episodes and is promoting her fifth right now, but already boasts Drake, Lil Yachty, and Mark Cuban as guests on the show. This would be a solid roster of podcast guests for Joe Rogan. It’s absolutely massive for someone who was less known than the third Watt brother just two months ago.
The first viral clip from this show was of Drake being confused about the term, “non-stop flight.” I thought it was crazy he had never heard of a non-stop flight, or at least the underrated Liam Neeson classic, Non-Stop. The internet had a good point in reaction to the clip, though. No one knew who Bobbi Althoff was, or why she was qualified to interview Drake in the first place.
A quick perusal into who Althoff was before she was universally accused of being an industry plant will show you just how fair the accusations are. She has been creating content on social media for around three years. She got her start on a since removed TikTok account that was centered around parenting content. When asked about her shift to podcasting, she told Teen Vogue that she no longer wanted to use her kids for content. The question still remains, how did a mommy vlogger with a minimal following shift to interviewing some of the biggest names in entertainment?
There have been many speculations about where Althoff’s career came from. Many people think she has rich parents. These people are likely right. Her entire character is being monotone and mildly sarcastic. This might be the most popular character archetype on the internet these days. She’s beating a dead horse, and she’s doing it worse than most of the other people with a Twitter account.
While typing this sentence, a baby was born, someone passed away, and a podcast that no one asked for was started. I didn’t have to fact check any of those. All of those things are just that common. Althoff is one of many sheep flocking to this trend in the entertainment industry. But for some inexplicable reason, she has become immensely successful doing it.
I don’t really have an answer for why Bobbi Althoff is famous. I’m just as curious as the rest of you. What I can tell you, is that the answer is not on the internet. I think she was set up by a rich family. But it’s also impossible to rule out any conspiracy theories that are way more complex than this one.
